My self-imposed ban on blog reading and posting is over as Lent ends tonight. I was only posting finishes on my blog, since this is my way of keeping track of what I've done and, more importantly, when. I missed reading about everyone's quilting adventures, but it was good for me to stop for a bit. As with most of us, the mask making continues. In between making masks, I worked on this scrappy quilt using 2 1/2" squares. As those who follow me know, I do not enjoy making scrappy quilts and…
Several months ago (January this year actually) I did a 2 inch postage stamp quilt that I really liked- such a great way to use up those scr...
*To begin the new year with one of my favorite quilting hints, I'm republishing this post from last spring for anyone who needs a refresher or has not heard about using leader/enders to make Free Quilts. FREE! What word grabs your attention more than that one! What if I told you that I often make Free Quilts? Yep, it's true. They don't cost me extra money OR time. Wanna see one? Here you go........................ I just finished sewing the blocks together on this one and am getting the…
A few years ago I fell in love with scrap quilting, mostly because I hate waste. My issue though was my obsession with making things match. As I have progressed in the world of quilting, the ability to let go in scrap quilts and allow them to form has become easier. I have had to learn to separate my quilting into two forms, the beautiful matching blended creation and the random scrap quilt. Since one of my goals AGAIN this year is to use up my ever building pile of scraps, the Project…
It’s gone. Posted. Ready to be hung and judged by strangers…. It’s actually quite a nice feeling to finally sit back and not have to worry about getting it finished before the cut off date. Ah, re…
Looking back on things, I chose the perfect time to make a scrappy quilt. Sewing together 2 1/2" squares in a somewhat random way is really mindless. I didn't have to concentrate on anything, really. I went back and forth on what to do with the borders of this quilt and after realizing that I didn't have enough of the white fabric to do what I had in mind, I decided to add three more rows of the scrappy squares. I love it!! There are so many fun fabrics in this quilt and some go way back to…

Read the Accompanying Tutorial I don’t think I’m in much of a position to complain—winter has been pretty wimpy here in New England. A few weeks ago, though, I got all twitchy about the dreary skies and salt-covered cars and grayness of it all. Since quilting is my solution to almost everything, I made a quilt, an effort to combat my spring-deprived state. Pairing gray 2.5-inch squares with ones in gold, orange, blue, navy, and green, I made a scrappy version of my Ridiculously Easy Jelly…

Pictures - Scrap Quilt - Here is a scrap quilt I made for donation. Those are 6 1/2 inch blocks.
I like how this turned out and wanted to make it bigger, maybe even twice as big, but I ran out of the blue/green solid. And, contrary to my previous post, it is not Kona Celadon. Maybe Moda Bella Caribbean? Well, I'm out and decided to finish it up at this size. I think I need to buy a bolt of a solid fabric I love and make a bigger one. The 2 inch scrap box looks like it can yield at least 10 more quilts. My favorite piece--the 1 is One duckling swimming in a dish from the Tasha Tudor…

The week between Christmas and New Year's I pin basted four quilts, preparing them for machine quilting. Today I am sharing the third finish of the four. I made this quilt from rectangles I found in a box of scraps from a quilt I made a number of years ago. There were a lot more rectangles than I remembered, so I started randomly placing them on my design wall and created this top. This was pure mindless sewing, which is needed on occasion! The machine quilting was purely mindless, too. I…
