CATASTROPHE on Instagram: "After studying under Takeji Iwamiya, Daidō Moriyama moved to Tokyo in 1961 to assist Eikoh Hosoe and began street photography in Osaka with a Canon 4SB.

In the late 1960s, amidst Vietnam W*r protests, Moriyama joined the experimental photographers of PROVOKE magazine. His career took off with the controversial Vol. 2, featuring his photo of a couple in a love hotel. This move sparked both outrage and excitement, propelling him into the fine art world.

Using various cameras like the Nikon S2, Rolleiflex, Minolta Autocord, and Pentax Spotmatic, he developed a unique style with grainy, blurry, high-contrast images.
