Sikhism - Vaisakhi is the Sikh New Year festival commemorating 1699, the year Sikhism became a collective faith. That year Guru Gobind Singh came out of a tent carrying a sword. He challenged any Sikh who was prepared to give his life to come into the tent. He returned alone with his sword covered in blood. He repeated the same action more four times. Then the crowd saw five men return wearing turbans come out. These five men became known as the Panj Pyare, or 'Beloved Five'.
