Garden in Spring - Miss Kim Lilac

One of the smaller lilaces that is usually a profuse bloomer, Miss Kim starts flowering in late May and continues into June. Here it is seen with the dramatic Ninebark "diablo." This ninebark is a native shrub that reaches Eight ft or so, this being a red leafed cultivar that has good color all season with nice flowers.

I have to comment on this Lilac. Syringa velutina 'Miss Kim' It's such a beautiful, easy shrub to use in a small landscape. This one is close to 20 years old. It blooms after the Common Lilacs bloom, and it's fragrant. If you love lilacs and you are disappointed when the season is over, and you think you have to wait a year until the event reoccurs, plant this one. It will extend the season. All the korean lilacs are a little later but I like this one. I put Miss Kim in my easy shrub list…

The Miss Kim lilac is also called Miss Kim Manchurian lilac and Syringa pubescens. It is a smaller variety of lilac bush that will reach a height of 6 or 7 feet. This variety is very fragrant and its dark-green foliage turns deep red in the cool fall months.

Miss Kim Lilac is a charming variety that produces an abundance of fragrant, lavender to ice blue flowers in late spring and whose leaves turn from green to burgundy in the fall. Slow growing, but at maturity reaches 6-8 feet tall and wide. Attracts wildlife such as butterflies and birds. Dwarf Korean Lilac.
