Paul Whiteman & Maurice Ravel. Ravel toured the USA for four months in 1928 where he met and befriended fellow composer George Gershwin. Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" had been premiered by bandleader Paul Whiteman. Sadly, Ravel died only a couple of months after Gershwin in December 1937, Gershwin from an unoperable brain tumour, Ravel of a botched brain operation.
