John Masefield, the Poet. i loved his Sea Fever even when in school.John Masefield's poem "Sea-Fever" expresses a sailor's powerful longing to return to the sea. The poem's rhythm creates a sense of the sailor's experiences at sea. The last two lines show that there is afigurative meaning comparing the sea to life & the end of life.

John Masefield (1878 – 1967) English poet and author, was Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom from 1930. Among his best known works are the children's novels 'The Midnight Folk and The Box of Delights', and the poems "The Everlasting Mercy" and "Sea-Fever". ~~Wikipedia

Acting Captain Basefield worked as a solicitor prior to the outbreak of war in 1914. He was also an author and poet, publishing two volumes of poetry, a volume of prose and a short guide to Staffordshire. On 14 June 1917, Capt Masefield was awarded the Military Cross for his actions while leading his company during a raid on German trenches at Cite sur Laurent, near Lens.
