Ok, now that we have that covered, here are the steps to take to revive a starter you think is dead (and probably isn’t): Pour off the hooch. Hooch is the gray liquid that collects on the top of your starter when it’s hungry. Feed equal parts, starter, flour and water and let sit for 4-12 hours until you see slight activity. Feed again, equal parts flour and water and let sit for 4-12 hours and at this point you should see more activity. If so, you are back in business!
