I taped a 16 x 20 and two 8 x 10 inch @gelliarts plates together with crystal clear packing tape. 2. Placement of the botanical materials was often leading off of the Gelli plate to give an expansive feeling to the finished piece. 3. I got lucky on the first take with large calligraphy practice paper, which is VERY fragile and sometimes pulls apart. I use soft, half ripe, roughly 18 x 30 inch sheets. In my online class I’ll be showing ways you can use the fragility to your advantage. Baby oil best for cleaning plate after. THE DETAILS: 1 - Start with a very dark charcoal drawing and DO NOT spray it with fixative. You want the dark, flaky, unstable charcoal to stick to the plate. I’m using a 16 x 20 inch @gelliarts plate in the reel. You can use any size. I haven’t yet tried this with pastel. I’m imagining it would work but I wanted something very dark to maximize impact. 2 - I used newsprint for the charcoal drawing and to lift the transfer off the plate. I haven’t yet experimented with other papers.
