Make! Rainbow Butterflies
Create a wonderful display of rainbow butterflies using objects that would usually be thrown away.
Create a wonderful display of precious butterflies using objects that would usually be thrown away.
You will need
Scissors, a glue stick, a collection of coloured, transparent wrapping papers, a selection of transparent thin plastic containers normally thrown away, a fine marker, Thread or fishing wire, a cut out butterfly drawn on paper or card, optional - a torch
Step 1
Cut up the plastic boxes into flat sheets. Draw a butterfly shape onto card or paper and cut out. Then using the butterfly cut out as a template draw around it onto one of the surfaces.
Step 2
Use the glue to stick one of the wrappers onto one of the flat sheets. Notice how the colours change when they overlap.
Step 3
Cut out the butterflies and fold some of them in half.
Step 4
When you have a pile, make a small hole somewhere on the body or the wing. This is for the thread or fishing wire.
Step 5
Thread the holes, tying off each one with a knot. You can then hang them on the window. On a sunny day you will see coloured shadows when the light shines through them.
Step 6.
The shadows are really dramatic at night if you shine a torch through them. The more butterflies you have, the more colourful as they overlap in really interesting ways. Or you can put them on a wall or window to see the same effect.
