Make! Homemade soap
Make your own environmentally friendly soap in this simple tutorial
saucepan, knife, glass bowl, wooden stick, essential oil, melt and pour soap base, tray on a table.
You will need:
A melt and pour soap base (We used about 150g for our three small soaps) Oats (We used about 20g) A pan A glass bowl (that is able to rest on top of the pan to create a bain-marie) A knife A wooden stick for stirring A container to put your soap into (silicone muffin/weaning trays are ideal. Alternatively you can use things such as yogurt pots - that can be cut off once your soap is set) Essential oils (We used vanilla - but it’s not necessary)
Pile of chopped oats with knife on top.
Step 1.
Chop up your oats to make them smaller but be sure not to make oat dust!
Saucepan on top of oven, partially filled with water.
Step 2
Fill up your saucepan about a quarter full with water.

Step 3.
Put your soap in the bowl and place on the saucepan.

Step 4.
Turn on the hob and bring to a gently simmer. Use the stick to gently stir the soap as it melts. (This does take a little while depending on how big your pan is and how much soap base you are trying to melt - do not leave while it is melting.)

Step 5.
Once the soap has melted, turn off the heat and add your essential oil to the soap

Step 8.
Leave it to set, ours took about an hour but it will vary depending on your mould size.

Step 9.
Once fully set pop out your soaps! (If you have used a yogurt pot or similar you may need to gently cut it out)
