Set up in 1884 to teach the working classes how to make metalwork and other handicrafts. Typically run by middle class and aristocratic women but well supported by the Arts & Crafts community, including A H Mackmurdo. Schools included Yattendon, Newton, Five Mile Town, Duchess of Sutherland Cripples Guild, Keswick School Industrial Arts and many others. I love the hand hammered repousse copper work.
