Designed on the footprint of two previous outbuildings, the proposal is divided into two main volumes joined by a glazed link. Woodland Business Park - gyd architects
Change of use for this former scrap yard located in the heart of the Kent countryside created a need for reasonably priced light industrial units that would sit well within this woodland. Balancing the natural setting with cedar clad minimalist architecture created an elegant and functional composition in response to the topography of the site. The textures of the surrounding woods informed design decisions for the finish of the buildings in this multi-unit development. Planning permission was granted for the Homestead Farm, Hougham, Dover. The clients’ main intention was to develop their farming business to sell their organic, pasture-fed beef direct to the public, via the Internet. For this, they needed a new building designed to meet food hygiene regulations where they could repackage the meat that comes already butchered and vacuum packed from the abattoir. A small office area was also required in order to manage the farm business.
