We’re drawn to opposites and how they work together – light and shade, wild and cultivated, abundant and restrained. The gardens we created at our Old Rectory project feel at ease yet also exciting, balancing modern design with traditional practices and tactile natural materials. 📷 @_juliananderson #gardendesign #gardendetails #landscapedesign #farlamandchandler #countrygarden #gardeninspiration #oppositesattract #designdetails
An early evening wander through the Orchard... In our Old Rectory garden we have brought modern elements to the traditional concept of an Orchard. Pleached edible apple and pear trees form an avenue along a mown path; the formality of which contrasts rather nicely with the wilder plum trees dotted through the wildflower meadow. #designdetails #wildflowermeadows #countrygarden #quietluxury #wildspaces #biodiversegarden #gardendesign #farlamandchandler #gardenromance
We always begin our design process with a masterplan, to ensure circulation and connection throughout the entire garden is thoroughly considered. Gateways have been installed in phase one of our Oast and Barn project, which will in time connect the Potager and Dining Courtyards to the larger Kitchen Garden when this is created in phase two next year. #masterplanning #landscapedesign #gardendesign
In collaboration with the existing architecture and response to the wider landscape of the garden, we designed a colonnade crafted from oak to serve as a partition within this garden. The materials were chosen to instil a sense of belonging and enduring quality, complementing the site’s historic character. #historicgarden #houseandgarden #gardendesign #landscapedesign #gardendetails #landscapearchitecture #gardensofinstagram #farlamandchandler #quintessentialenglishgarden #classicenglish
Planning permission has been granted for our proposals for the gardens of a grade 2 listed house, originally designed by architect Sir Aston Webb. Rich in intricate details, our inspiration was drawn from the shapes and forms found within the home, which we have incorporated into the garden, fostering a deeper connection between the indoor and outdoor environments. In the upcoming months, we will be focusing on Stage 4 design, developing the technical details and managing the tender phase.
Incorporating a tennis court was an essential element in the brief provided by our client when we were initially tasked with designing the gardens of their grade 2* listed country home. We situated this feature in an open, neglected portion of the garden, discreetly hidden behind an old brick wall and a newly planted avenue of pleached edible pear trees. This creates a green, decorative veil that links the recreational area to the adjacent productive space, the Kitchen Garden.
The refined simplicity of the formal lawn, bordered by hedges and adorned with sculpted topiary, maintains its structure and infuses greenery throughout the winter in the garden we crafted for a Grade II* listed Queen Anne home in the Kent countryside. Conceived as the tranquil core from which to access the more dynamic pool garden, kitchen garden, orchard, meadow, and tennis court... 📷 @juliananderson #landscapearchitecture #farlamandchandler #gardendesign #wintergarden #gardendetails
The Magnolia tree with it’s beautiful organic structure, the central pillar of the garden. We very gladly inherited it from the existing garden and kept it in-situ, creating the new pool garden around it and making space for the tree to shine. #countrygarden #naturallandscapes #gardendesign #landscapearchitecture #farlamandchandler
The trees, hedgerows and wildflower meadows we planted earlier in the year are growing and flourishing around us whilst a few finishing touches are being implemented on site. A pleasure to be continuing bi-weekly visits at the moment to monitor the garden’s progress in the very early stages. #biodiversegardens #gardendesign #wildlifegarden #gardensofinstagram #landscapearchitecture
Phase One of our Oast and Barn garden nearing completion. With a strong collaboration with the architecture and a response to the wider landscape, a sense of place has been instilled, whilst also leaving space and time for nature to artfully bring everything together. #gardendetails #wildandcultivated #wildflowermeadows #designedliving #gardendesign #landscapedesign #gardensofinstagram #farlamandchandler #countrygarden #countryliving
