The under-construction World Trade Center Transportation Hub, designed by Santiago Calatrava and adjacent to the National 9/11 Memorial, is a soaring symbol of renewal for New York City and features a transit hall that will rival Grand Central in size. The inspiration for its design came from an image Calatrava had of “a bird being released from a child’s hand".
