“This trellis is a good solution for heavier climbers such as squash and watermelon because of its thickness and strength of the wood panel. Once the vines start climbing the trellis, they provide shade for lettuces underneath.”
smart-gardener: homesteaddreams: I’m going vertical with my watermelon, squash, cantaloup, and cucumbers this year. I did it inadvertently with my watermelon two years ago - they climbed the garden fence when I was away for a week. It actually worked really well. Except the deer munched on the ones that grew on the outside of the fence. + + + There are so many plants that can be made to grow vertically! Another Great vertical pumpkin/squash growing method. Awesomeness!
