✯ The 16th Avenue Tiled Steps project has been a neighborhood effort to create a beautiful mosaic running up the risers of the 163 steps located at 16th and Moraga in San Francisco. The project, led by artists Aileen Barr and Colette Crutcher, was completed on August 18, 2004 with the help of over 300 neighbors, and over 220 neighbors who sponsored handmade animal, bird and fish name tiles. Great place for a workout if you are visiting!

Sun bear cub--I've loved Sun Bears since volunteering at the zoo in New Orleans, where I first discovered them. Baby Sun bears are even cuter than baby Polar bears!

Mormon Battalion Historic Site

The Mormon Battalion Historical Site is a visitor center in San Diego. The Mormon Battalion was the only religiously based unit in US military history, and it served from July 1846 to July 1847 during the Mexican-American War. The battalion was a volunteer unit of about 534-559 Latter-day Saints men. During its service, the battalion made a grueling march nearly 2,000 miles long from Council Bluffs, Iowa, to San Diego. At the site is exhibits and a 40 minute free tour.
