One of three oil paint portraits depicting Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II, known as Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, will be auctioned on July 8 by Sotheby’s London. Made by famous Venetian painter Gentile Bellini, the portrait will be put on auction for the first time.

He began work painting theatrical scenery (his father's profession), but he turned to topography during a visit to Rome in 1719-20, when he was influenced by the work of Giovanni Paolo Panini.

"La polenta" (Venice, Ca' Rezzonico, oil on canvas, - painting by Pietro Longhi (1702- 1785). Pietro Longhi was a a Venetian painter of contemporary scenes of life. About the painting there are 2 young polenta-maker girls with their typical long wooden stirring spoon (known as mestolo) and their round-bottom copper pot known as "paiolo", where water is heated and cornmeal sprinkle into it. The polenta-maker is pouring onto a special round wooden board called "tafferia".
