Originally composed by Francis Bellamy in 1892 and formally adopted by Congress as the pledge in 1942
Free printable copy of the US Pledge of Allegiance.
Students are given a sound file that has President Obama reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. The recitation has been broken into short stanzas with silence interspersed between each stanza. Students were asked to create a soundtrack that reflects their individual relationship (or lack thereof) of the Pledge or their view of America's place in the world. Various constraints were placed on the work, including that they could not alter the file of the President's voice.
Do students really know and understand the Pledge of Allegiance? They recite it at school, but what does it mean? Do they know proper etiquette when handling and displaying the flag? This activity bundle is designed to teach students about the Pledge of Allegiance and the U.S.
