Betsey’s Hope: Destination Trinidad and Tobago | estate originally named Lousie D’or Estate, a name that was later changed to reflect the area and plantation in which it was situated under British rule, Betsey’s Hope. This battery was built to protect the sugar crop that populated the estate in the 1700’s. This small battery overlooks Queen’s Bay on the Windward side of Tobago.

Named for the tobacco cultivated by the original Carib population, Tobago existed separately from Trinidad for centuries. While the explorer Christopher Columbus sighted the island in 1498, he did not land and no attempts were made to colonize Tobago.
