Many people think of beach trash as an unfortunate eyesore. But Barry Rosenthal, who spends much of his time on beaches in gloves and knee-high boots, combing through glass, plastic, and other junk, finds artistic inspiration in what others leave behind.
Lou Xiaoying, now 88 and suffering from kidney failure, found and raised more than 30 abandoned babies from the streets of Jinhua, in the eastern Zhejiang province where she made a living by recycling. She and her late husband kept 4 of the children and passed the others on to start new lives. Her youngest son was found in a dustbin by Lou when she was 82.
