This iconic photo depicts the jubilance and relief expressed throughout America when armistice was declared in World War Two. Contrary to popular opinion, the two in the picture were not lovers; the soldier was jubilantly planting kisses on women in Times Square – this lucky nurse was just one of them. -1940s-
Black Coyote, Lakota Sioux. One version of events claims that a deaf tribesman named Black Coyote was reluctant to give up his rifle, claiming he had paid a lot for it. A scuffle over Black Coyote’s rifle escalated and a shot was fired which resulted in the 7th Cavalry’s opening fire indiscriminately from all sides, killing men, women, and children, as well as some of their own fellow troopers. I want to say this is inspirational but while I sit/awkwardly balance here, barely able to put pressure on one hip/arse cheek and struggling to stay awake I think of all the pressure, anxiety and lies I have been put through only to be let down and denied help at every opportunity and I'm not sure this is what the country is anymore!!
Well put by another: This picture sums up a lot of what we were talking about in class today. Funny with Columbus day having been a week ago, the whole holiday is pretty ridiculous. Read somewhere that especially Italian-Americans see Columbus day as a celebration of their heritage, say what?? Celebrating a day when a person found a land that was never lost!
