Much of modern teaching revolves around group-work, presentations, speaking up and speaking out. Susan Cain's book, Quiet: The power of introverts in a world that can't stop talking, reminded us to remember that quiet students may not be comfortable in a culture where being social and outgoing are prized above all else. She says that it can be difficult, even shameful, to be an introvert.
