Sir John Betjeman was British Poet Laureate from 1972 to 1984. A lover of Victorian architecture he campaigned vigorously in the 1960s against the proposed demolition of St. Pancras station. Beneath him reads "John Betjeman 1906-1984, poet, who saved this glorious station" :D http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Betjeman
Statue of Sir Winston Churchill, London. Before he passed Winston told the powers that be that he didn't want a statue of himself put up as he did not want pigeons pooping on his head. They did put up a statue but put an electric strip just under the top of his head, no pigeon can sit and poop on his head!!.
