Spider hunting wasp {Pompilidae}photographed in a mobile field studio. Maliau Basin, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia.

Pison wasps raise their young on a diet of living, but paralyzed, spiders. Paralyzed spiders don’t decay, staying fresh while the wasp grubs eat them alive. Here's the collected efforts of 1/2 an hour of *1* wasp's spider hunting. (text & image copyright Alex Wild)

The sting of the Hawkwasp is likened to being electrocuted, or having your blood replaced by fire. One researcher said the pain is so excruciating, it removes your ability to do practically anything, except possibly scream. It is the 2nd most painful insect sting in the world. Simply terrifying.
