The Sisters of Mercy are an English rock band that formed in 1980. After achieving early underground fame in UK, the band had their commercial breakthrough in mid-1980s and sustained it until the early 1990s, when they stopped releasing new recorded output in protest against their record company. Currently, the band is a touring outfit only.
Southern Cultural Heritage Center--This cultural center tells the story of the Sisters of Mercy, who, for 132 years, educated children and nursed the sick at St. Francis Xavier Academy and Convent. Tours showcase: the Cobb House (circa 1830), the original school and hospital barracks during the Civil War; the Gothic Revival Convent (1868); the Italianate Auditorium (1885); and the 1937 Academy, Listed on National Register of Historic Places, Mississippi Landmark.
