The harbour of Le Havre has become, since its creation by King François I, a major exchange hub, but it has also been at the heart of the history of sports well before welcoming the Tour for the first time in 1911. The city indeed welcomed the Olympic Games both in 1900 and 1924 thanks to the Société des Régates Havraise in charge of organizing the sailing events.


Women first competed at the 1900 Paris Games. Women were allowed to compete in lawn tennis and golf, though there were three French women competing in croquet and there was at least one woman sailor as part of mixed crews. It is commonly believed that first woman to win an Olympic event was England's Charlotte Cooper, who won the tennis singles title, however Swiss sailor Hélène de Pourtalès won a gold medal as part of a team in sailing earlier than this. This is great! When Surfing Becomes Sailing by Planet Sport. Our team's surfing expert was excited to go and cover the Olympic Surfing events in Weymouth this weekend. Unfortunately, she and her friend Lizzy quickly found out that surfing is not an Olympic event and that Weymouth was actually hosting sailing. Through trial and error, the girls learn a little bit about sailing through the process.
