HMS Royal Oak, a Revenge class battleship of the Royal Navy was launched in 1916 and saw action in the battle of Jutland. She was sunk on 14th October 1940 at her mooring at Scapa Flow, the Royal Navy’s base in the Orkney Islands in a daring raid by Kapitänleutnant Günther Prien in U-47. 833 lives were lost in the attack. The wreck has been designated a war grave.
