I grew up camping in tents. We slept in or on sleeping bags, depending on what season it was, and almost never used air mattresses. I’ve never had any problem with it, especially as a kid, when you could pretty much sleep on a bed of rocks and jump up in the morning ready to go. Even now, at the ripe young age of 34, I’m fine sleeping on the ground when camping. I’m fine pitching a tent with poles and stakes and giant windows if I need to. Sometimes you need all that space.
