Despite looking like something out of a Pixar movie, this actually did work and first flew in 1932. It was basically a flying engine and was extremely fast for it’s time with a top speed of 300mph. It also turned very quickly and although was very aerodynamic, it was very difficult to handle and very easy to crash!
