Tulsa, OK in the early 1900s. Black owned oil companies, law firms, train stations, grocery stores, jewelry stores, movie theaters, and medical schools just to name few. On May 30th, 1921 it was alleged that a Black man assaulted a white woman. A race riot occurred destroying the town of 600 Black owned businesses. Maiking it one of many successful Black towns that were cowardly destroyed. This kills the myth that we never worked for anything because when we had our own, it was wiped out.
