The Northwest Angle, known simply as the Angle by locals, and coextensive with Angle Township, is a part of northern Lake of the Woods County, Minnesota, and is the only place in the United States outside Alaska that is north of the 49th parallel.
The Northwest Angle and Islands are located 60 miles North of Roseau, or Warroad through Manitoba, Canada. The Northwest Angle and Islands are located at the Top of the Nation – or the “Chimney” of Minnesota.
The Northwest Angle to Key West - Kayaking 4,000 miles across the United States by D. Alvarez. The Northwest Angle is a relic left over from an old treaty and a misguided map. It sits on top of Minnesota and is further north than any other point in the contiguous United States. The southernmost point, Key West, is 4,000 miles of lakes, rivers, and ocean away. I plan on kayaking every foot of it.
