Shire Hall, Lancaster Castle, Lancashire, England: The castle has been the property of the English monarch since 1102. From 1570 - 2011, the castle was used as a prison, and was a place of execution. Shire Hall was added to the castle at the turn of the 19th century and served as a courtroom.
