A Merovingian Rock Crystal And Gold Amuletic Sphere Pendant Circa 5th-6th Century A.D. These cased rock crystal balls are also fairly common in Anglo-Saxon graves, often apparently wrapped around a sword scabbard. They were clearly some kind of amulet or charm, but the purpose is unknown.
