A possible marble likeness of the handsome East India Merchant Jonathon Strang. The statue certainly has Jonathon's mop of wavy hair as I imagined it. AUTUMN DUCHESS [Le Désespoir, Jean-Joseph Perraud. Musée d’Orsay, Paris.]
Anton Alvarez. This image attracted me simply because this artist has taken something that represents strength and control - a marble pillar - and morphed it and squished it down to make it appear flexible and easy to manipulate. This juxtaposition of strength and compliance I find really interesting, as well just the aesthetic of this piece that to me looks similar to the folded, creased but also set and solid fabric medium that I will be using.
