Portrait of Leslie Howard (1893-1943) by Reginald G.Eves (British 1876-1941)....English stage and film actor. Among his best-known roles was Ashley Wilkes in Gone with the Wind and roles in Of Human Bondage & The Scarlet Pimpernel. He was active in anti-Nazi propaganda and reputedly involved with British or Allied Intelligence. Leslie Howard. Best known as playing "Ashley Wilkes" in Gone With The Wind. He died on June 1, 1943 at the age of 50. He was a pilot in the British airforce and was shot down during WWII.
