Stage 2 departs today from Saint-Lô, Normandie. Also known as the "martyr city" due to it's bombing during WWII, it was awarded the Legion of Honour and le Croix de Guerre in 1908 to honour it's sacrificial role during the second world war.

Susan Travers, British, a recipient of the Legion d'Honneur, a French honour established by Napoleon, others were for the Medaille Militaire and the Croix de Guerre. Travers joined the French Red Cross during the outbreak of WWII. Later, she joined the Free French and became a resistance fighter. She is only woman ever to serve in French Foreign Legion.
Cpl Pun, 1st Battalion the Royal Gurkha Rifles, receives Conspicuous Gallantry Cross. He fired 250 GPMG rnds, 180 SA80 rnds, 6 phosphorous grenades, 6 grenades, 5 UGL rounds & 1 Claymore. He didn't have his traditional Kukri knife carried by Gurkhas, so he beat one enemy fighter away with the tripod for his GPMG.
