11. Visit Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Originally founded by Lady Bird Johnson, wife of President Lyndon B. Johnson, the nature preserve that bears the former first lady’s name was originally created in the early 80’s as an attempt to save America’s native plants. Since 2006, it has been used as a research facility by the University of Texas. The best time to visit is mid-March to late April when the wildflowers are in bloom.
