Hoa Loa Prison (known as Hanoi Hilton) was a French prison that was used by the North Vietnamese government to hold American prisoners during the Vietnam War. Reports from prisoners say Vietnamese jailers used torture, starvation, and murder to subdue them. Notable figures that spent time there: US Senator John McCain, US VP candidate James Stockdale and decorated USAF pilot Bud Day. Today, this prison serves as a hotel under the name Hilton Hanoi Opera Hotel.
