Jack Kerouac was actually a native French speaker. His parents were both French Canadian and moved to Lowell, Mass where Jack was born. His Christian name is Jean Louis Lebris de Kerouac. Many critics attribute his bizarre ability to write poetic run-on sentences to the fact that English grammar rules weren't as natural to him as French ones. -mcd
