Building more prisons and putting more people in them will not get to the root of the problem or prevent crime. Bill C-10 will not make communities safer! We need more support for community programs for youth, mental health, and addictions. We also need more programs for people who have been released from prison. Yes, some people need to be imprisoned for the safety of communities - but for many, prison has a negative effect and encourages them to commit more crimes when they are released.
