Sepoy, 1st Sikh Infantry (Punjab Frontier Force) - This regiment, raised in 1846, was senior among the infantry regiments of the Punjab Frontier Force, that part of the Indian Army which had a special responsibility for keeping the peace on the North-West Frontier. It was one of the first Indian regiments to leave for China in 1900 and, with the 7th Rajputs, was the first of the British contingent to enter the besieged Legations at Peking.
World War II - Sikh soldiers fighting in Italy. The Order of Battle of the Indian Army included the 4th, 8th and 10th Indian Army Divisions. These divisions were part of the legendary 8th British Army and fought along with British, New Zealand, Polish, American, Canadian and French Divisions.
