German photographer couple, Bernd & Hilla Becher’s water tower series is fantastic. I love it when artists take something industrial & utilitarian and transform it to be so completely gorgeous. Plus there’s a really nice graininess…something delightfully unrefined about these that a lot of modern photography just doesn’t have these days. Also why don’t American water towers look like this??
Tearful Goodbyes, Paddington Station, London, 1942. Bert Hardy, the photographer for the Picture Post, records the day to day running of this busy wartime station recording tearful goodbyes of parting couples. This was for an article running in the Picture Post on May 23rd 1942, called Wartime Terminus.
