I think I've failed to include anything about the chickens on Kauai in my previous blogs. As anyone who has been there knows, they're everywhere. These are the Hawaiian Moa (Ornamental Red Jungle Fowl) introduced to the island centuries ago by the Polynesians. Since that time these birds have been intentionally and unintentionally cross bred with many other species of chicken, from fighting birds to wild fowl. The Coco Palms Resort. It became the go-to vacation destination for honeymooning couples due to the success of the films Miss Sadie Thompson and Blue Hawaii. In 1992, hurricane Iniki hit the island and destroyed the resort. Now it sits empty, an eerie landmark of 50's kitsch.

The Coco Palms was the oldest hotel on the Garden Isle of Kaua`i, and was the world's most famous Polynesian resort.
