Nadia Elena Comaneci is a winner of five Olympic gold medals, and the first gymnast to be awarded a perfect score of 10 in an Olympic gymnastic event (actually Nellie Kim holds that honor-this article is incorrect). Comaneci was the first Romanian gymnast to win the all-around title at the Olympics. She is also the youngest-ever Olympic gymnastics all-around champion.
British gymnast Louis Smith was the final competitor to perform in the men’s pommel horse discipline and scored exactly the same as leader Krisztian Berki of Hungary. But Smith, 23, had to settle for silver and not his treasured gold because Berki had been awarded 9.166 for the execution of his exercise to the home favourite’s 9.066.
