The Ryugyong - North Koreans drew up plans for a 105 floor hotel. The estimated cost to build would be around $230 million. By 1992 numerous delays & problems had driven the cost up to over $750 million. The building finally reached its full architectural height by 1992, but a broke government & lack of investors meant the project would be abandoned Had the hotel been finished it would have stood as the tallest hotel and the seventh tallest building in the world.
Singer building - St Petersburg, Russia. Built in the late 19th Century by the American Singer Sewing Machine Company, this building was put to official use by the Soviet Government after the Revolution. Fortunately the building has survived almost totally intact as it is a masterpiece of Art Nouveau commercial architecture.
