Sir Henry Parkes, the 'Father of Federation', was born on 27 May 1815 in Warwickshire, England, youngest of the seven children. In 1839 Sir Henry Parkes migrated to NSW, and founded the newspaper "Empire". Parkes was active in politics and advocated strongly for Federation. He was the NSW Premier five times, and is remembered for a number of powerful speeches in favour of Federation. Parkes died suddenly in 1896, not able to witness the Federation of Australia in 1900/01.
