Weather pictures of the year 2011: lightning, auroras, snow and ice
Daring climbers brave temperatures of -20 degrees and a terrifying 110 feet vertical drop to scale this spectacular wall of ice. The natural pillar, named The Rigid Designator, in Colorado, USA, is one of the hardest ice climbs in the world. Those that attempt it risk death if they lose their footing and slip. Photographer Lucas Gilman watched as his friends Cam Brensinger and Caitlin Brensinger completed the climb.
