Quadratic, Cubic, Reciprocal and Exponential Graphs

Here's a great activity to reinforce graphing radical functions, graphing cubic functions, finding inverses of radical functions and inverses of cubic functions. There are forty cards, four cards to each set. Every set contains a function graph, its inverse graph, and the matching equations for each graph card. The activity also has a recording sheet to keep students accountable for their knowledge.

This activity provides an opportunity for students to discover how to transform quadratic, absolute value, and cubic functions using graphing calculators. Vertical, horizontal, and reflections over the x-axis are covered. Students work through the activity and have an opportunity to show what they have learned.

Cubic Functions Matching is an interactive and hands on way for students to practice finding roots of cubic functions to identify key features of the graph. Students match each cubic function card to its zeros card and graph card. This activity can be used in a variety of ways including as an interactive notebook page, class pairs activity, homework assignment, or individual assessment of student understanding.

This applet allows for students to discover how the parameters "a", "h", and "k" affect the graphs and equations of 4 key parent functions: The parent quadratic function The parent cubic function The parent absolute value function The parent square root function The LOCATION OF THE SLIDERS are INTENTIONALLY PLACED to help students make more meaningful connections. Key guiding questions are located underneath the applet.

Factoring Tic-Tac-Toe is an activity for grades 8-12.Students practice factoring quadratic and cubic functions with eight different techniques by playing tic-tac-toe. Students factor given expressions and find the solution in the tic-tac-toe grid. Each student places an x or an o in the corresponding solution.
