Crazy Horse Monument, South Dakota, USA. The wonderful part about this monument is that it has been entirely privately funded, and the sculptor & his family have turned down taxpayer money to build it.
Crazy Hourse Memorial, Black Hills SD. Sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski and Lakota Chief Henry Standing Bear officially started Crazy Horse Memorial June 3, 1948. The Memorial's mission is to honor the culture, tradition and living heritage of North American Indians.
Black Hills, SD - only 17 miles from Mt Rushmore is the granite face of the famous Lakota leader Crazy Horse. Once completed Crazy Horse Memorial will be the largest mountain carving in the world. When finished, this 3D carving will be 641 ft long and 563 ft high. For size perspective, all 4 granite heads from Mt Rushmore can fit into the head of Crazy Horse. Started by sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski, his family continues today. The white plaster model in photo is what it will look like…
Walk to the top of Chief "Crazy Horse" Memorial. Done.. June 2013!! I saw this in the 70's - just visited again. It doesn't seem like it's come very far, but considering the size, it has! First weekend in June is the Volksmarch - 6.2 mile hike to the arm!! A great experience!!!!!!
