Fuldheim is credited with being the first woman in the United States to anchor a television news broadcast as well to host her own television show. She has been referred to as the "First Lady of Television News." Barbara Walters of ABC News said that Fuldheim "was probably the first woman to be taken seriously doing the news. I knew Dorothy, and she made us all proud," said Walters.
